Monthly Archives: June 2022
Join us for a DEI Book Discussion on Zoom at 4 pm on Sunday, July 24. Pick up a copy of Dying of Whiteness: How the Politics of Racial Resentment Is Killing America’s Heartland by Jonathan M. Metzl. We’ll be discussing the first chapter of this non-fiction book that focuses on Cape Girardeau and Missouri’s lax gun laws.
In response to the seemingly endless succession of mass shooter events in our country, the League asks you to contact our U.S. Senators to take action as quickly as possible for gun safety. We know that innocent lives will continue to be lost due to inaction by legislators.
The League supports licensing procedures for gun ownership by private citizens to include a waiting period for background checks, personal identity verification, gun safety education, and annual license renewal, enforcement of strict penalties for the improper possession of and crimes committed with handguns and assault weapons, and allocation of resources to better regulate and monitor gun dealers.

There will be rallies nationwide on Saturday, June 11th calling for gun safety measures. Here is a link to information about the “March for our Lives”: The March For Our Lives 2022 – Washington DC + Nationwide.
